General radiography & sonar
We offer two core services — general X-ray imaging and diagnostic ultrasound (sonar). Both are performed on referral from your doctor at our practice in Marikana Square, Rustenburg.
General Radiography
X-ray imaging
X-rays use a small, carefully controlled dose of radiation to produce images of the inside of your body — mainly bones and the chest. They are quick, painless and one of the most common ways doctors confirm a diagnosis.
Common uses
- Chest X-rays (lungs, heart)
- Bones, joints & suspected fractures
- Spine (cervical, thoracic, lumbar)
- Abdomen overview
- Sinuses & skull
What to expect
The radiographer will position you against the imaging plate and ask you to hold still — sometimes briefly holding your breath. Each image takes only a few seconds. Most studies are completed in 10–15 minutes.
How to prepare

- Wear comfortable clothes without metal
- Tell us if you are or may be pregnant
- Bring previous X-rays if available
Sonar / Ultrasound
Diagnostic ultrasound
Sonar uses safe, painless sound waves to produce real-time images of soft tissues and organs. There is no radiation involved, which makes it ideal for many abdominal, pelvic and pregnancy scans.
Common uses
- Abdominal scans (liver, gallbladder, kidneys)
- Pelvic scans
- Obstetric (pregnancy) scans
- Soft-tissue lumps & swellings
- Thyroid and neck
What to expect
You'll lie on the examination bed while the radiographer applies a warm gel and moves a small probe across the area being scanned. Images appear in real time on the screen. Most scans take 15–30 minutes.
How to prepare
- Bring your referral letter
- Abdominal scans: don't eat for 6 hours beforehand
- Pelvic / pregnancy scans: come with a full bladder
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing

What to bring with you
Referral letter
From your doctor or specialist, indicating the area to be scanned.
ID document
South African ID, passport or driver's licence.
Medical aid card
If you're claiming from your medical aid scheme.
Most medical aids accepted
We accept most major South African medical aid schemes. Please bring your card on the day of your visit.
Radiology report included
Every scan we perform is accompanied by a full radiology report — there are no hidden reporting fees.
Going paperless
We're moving to a fully digital workflow. Your images and report are sent securely via WhatsApp or email.
